COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland competitive cheer team kicked off its practice season over the last few weeks. The Terps brought on numerous faces and welcomed back plenty of veterans to begin the new season.

The Terrapins ended the 2007-08 season with a bang, as they won their third consecutive national title at the NCA Nationals in Daytona Beach, Fla. in April.

Despite losing some valuable leadership in their seniors, the team has eight freshmen and three transfers that are new to the roster this year.

"The start of every season is exciting because every year there is a new combination of talent," said head coach Jarnell Bonds. "The newcomers are working hard to adjust to University of Maryland Competitive Cheer's standards on form and technique in skill execution. My veteran team members are really stepping up and leading the team with the quest to get in competition shape quickly."

In addition to their busy schedule, the Terps will host a series of clinics that will be open to the public. Registrants will work on stunting, jumps, gymnastics and dance. The clinics will be held on Oct. 5, Nov. 16., and Jan. 18. Each session will be from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and will be held at the Comcast Center Auxiliary gym. The cost is $50 per applicant for each session. To register please visit www.regonline.com/umdcheer.
