Head Coach Andrew Valmon
In the world of track and field, the ultimate symbol of success is the Olympic Gold Medal.
Maryland head coach Andrew Valmon has two.
Entering his ninth year as head coach of cross country, a renaissance of excitement surrounding these Maryland programs has come from Valmon’s stature in the running community - locally, regionally and nationally.
A member of first-place 4x400 relay teams for the U.S. at the Olympics in 1988 and 1992, Valmon’s attention and competitive nature have turned toward restoring the Terrapins to the proud traditions that made them one of the East’s prominent programs in recent history.
βTo have a young, enthusiastic coach there will be very good for the university. He has a lot of respect in the track and field community. He’s a hungry, aggressive person who will revitalize a program that has a storied background.β β Maryland alumnus and world record-holder Renaldo Nehemiah.
