June 5, 2008

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Christina Smith of the University of Maryland has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 2 women's track and field team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Smith, a senior from Sicklerville, N.J., was one of 11 women selected for District 2 honors. The district includes NCAA Division I institutions in the states of Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Washington, D.C.

She earned a 3.57 grade-point average in marketing at Maryland and will go down as one of the Terrapins' most celebrated female student-athletes. Smith ranks second all-time at Maryland in the heptathlon (5,165 points) and is one of two Terps ever to score more than 5,000.

Smith was a provisional-qualifier for the NCAA Nationals in the heptathlon.
