Berger, Aluko Win Events At Georgia Tech

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Junior Dominic Berger and junior Toni Aluko were highlights for Maryland track and field at the Georgia Tech Inivitational this weekend. Both athletes won their respective events as competition concluded on Saturday. Berger led the Terrapins with a first-place finish in the men's 110-meter hurdles final with a time of 13.75 to top his prelim time of 13.94. Senior Adam Durham finished fifth in the final with a time of 14.24. Both Berger and Durham ran NCAA Regional-qualifying times in the event. Aluko tied for first in the women's high jump with North Carolina's LaShonda Carter. Aluko had an NCAA Regional-qualifying mark in the event (5-8.75). Sophomore David Edwards-Brennan had a season-best mark and earned an NCAA Regional berth in the men's high jump. Edwards-Brennan tied for fifth place with a mark of 6-10.75. Junior Earl Gray won his heat of the men's 200-meter dash with a season-best time of 21.22. Gray missed an NCAA Regional-qualifying time in the event by only .03 seconds. Sophomore Josh Davis ran a season-best time in the men's 800-meter run (1:52.83) to place second in his heat. Davis also ran a time of 3:59.48 in the 1,500-meter run to finish sixth in his heat. Freshman Jeremy Samuels tied his season-best time in the men's 400-meter dash (47.99) to finish fifth in his heat. Junior Natasha Emmanuel had a season best in the women's 400-meter dash (56.42). Emmanuel finished fifth in her heat of the event.
To close out the weekend, the Maryland men's 4x400 relay team ran a season-best time of 3:10.32 to finish in fourth place. Next up, the Terps will send qualifiers to the NCAA Regional Championships, beginning May 25 in Gainesville, Fla. MEN'S INDIVIDUAL RESULTS (First Place and Maryland Finishers)
