The Maryland track and field program is blessed with a group of coaches who represent the best blend of national and international experience and young, up-and-coming mentors working together to produce outstanding results. Matthew Jelley is in his first season directing the Terrapins’ distance program, along with with Maryland cross country team. A former Terrapin standout, Danielle Siebert has turned her personal success as a student-athlete into success as one of the Maryland assistant coaches. Siebert is also responsible for much of the operational aspects of the track and field program. Roland Desonier, the Terps’ throws coach, has produced a number of All-Americans and All-ACC performers. More than 90 percent of the top performances in the women’s throws have come during Desonier’s time at Maryland. Maryland Hall-of-Famer Frank Costello, a former NCAA Coach of the Year and one of the most decorated jumpers in Terrapin history, is on the staff to assist with the jumps and hurdles. Olympians Tiombe Hurd, who held the American record in the women’s triple jump, and Meredith Rainey-Valmon are also volunteer coaches who are part of the Terrapins’ outstanding staff.
