Olympic Connection
Maryland’s coaching staff is elite on the national and international level, born of direct experience at the highest levels of track and field.
With the 2012 and 2016 Olympics approaching, Maryland has attracted student-athletes who have high aspirations and desire international-level coaching. Several alumni such as Kierra Foster and Dominic Berger are on track to compete for Olympic berths in upcoming years.
Head coach Andrew Valmon holds two Olympic gold medals in the 4x400 relay and is part of a foursome that holds the world record in that event. His wife and volunteer coach Meredith Rainey-Valmon is also an Olympian in the 800-meter run. Volunteer coach Tiombe Hurd is part of the group as an accomplished Olympian and American record-holder in the triple jump.
Maryland’s current student-athletes are also gaining valuable experience at the international level. Kiani Profit recently represented Team USA at the NACAC Under-23 Championships and won the 2010 heptathlon title at that meet.
