Friends of Men's Track,
With the work of the Save Men's Track steering committee, and the support of many alumni and friends, the first fund-raising benchmark was successfully met for Men's Outdoor Track and Field, saving the team for the 2012-2013 season. Our focus now is on meeting the next two fund raising benchmarks in order to save the program beyond one year. Those benchmarks are:
$1.88 million cumulative total in cash donations by December 31, 2012
$3.76 million cumulative total in cash donations by December 31, 2013
The plan for Men's Track calls for the roster to be limited to 14 men who will compete during the outdoor season only. Operational costs for Men's Track will be budgeted at $125,000 annually. Scholarship levels will continue at their current level of 10 (NCAA maximum is 12.6) and will include some aid for summer and winter sessions. In order to maintain our requirements and commitment to Title IX proportionality, we will add to the traditional sizes of the women's teams (22 from 18 in Women's Cross Country, 40 from 35 in Indoor Track and Field, and 40 from 36 in Outdoor Track and Field). The cost to proportionally increase aid to female student-athletes for summer and winter sessions is a part of the Men's Track fund raising goal.
You can help us to Save Men's Track beyond the 2012-2013 season by making a donation now, either online or by mail or fax. No donation is too large or too small.
Should we not be able to save our sport, donations will either be re-designated or refunded, depending on the date of donation. Please see the Donor FAQ or Gift Agreement for details.
