Athletics Fundraising

The Terrapin Club is comprised of more than 8,000 alumni, friends and fans of University of Maryland athletics. Your Terrapin Club contribution provides annual athletics scholarship support over 450 of Maryland's 700-plus student-athletes on 27 varsity teams.

Being a Terrapin Club member enables you to participate in the camaraderie and fellowship unique to the organization and its members, receive a tax deduction for your financial contribution for scholarships, and enjoy access to great benefits, including priority seating and parking at Byrd Stadium for football and Comcast Center for basketball. Most importantly, you will feel pride and satisfaction in providing a Terrapin student-athlete with a quality education.

Annual membership levels begin at $50, or just $25 for recent graduates. For your convenience, a personal checking account can be debited a set amount every month. In many cases, corporate matching gifts may be used to make your Terrapin Club contribution. Please contact your employer to see if you are eligible for a matching gift program. Visit www.terrapinclub.com to learn more and to join.

The Terrapin Club Major Gifts staff works with Terrapin Club members, alumni and fans to raise funds for facility construction and renovation projects and endowments for scholarships and programs.

One of the current projects, the Gossett Football Team House Campaign , is an effort to provide funding so that Coach Friedgen, his staff and team will have the tools necessary for Maryland Football to be a perennial contender for conference and national championships. The funds raised through this vital campaign will enhance the football practice fields and add over 20,000 square feet to the existing team house, including: (1) a state-of-the-art academic support area for football student athletes; (2) a multi-purpose room for team training table and recruiting; and (3) a fully-technologically capable team meeting auditorium.

You can have your name permanently associated with the excitement of Maryland football by making a gift to the Gossett Football Team House Campaign. Naming opportunities exist for gifts beginning at $2,000 for chairs in the new auditorium, $5,000 for player lockers in the team locker room, and beginning at $25,000 for other rooms and areas in the team house.

The M Club was founded in 1923 by a group of former University of Maryland athletes led by Dr. J.C. "Curley" Byrd to encourage excellence in athletics. It is among the oldest and most respected letterwinners clubs in the nation and boasts more than 4,200 former Maryland student-athletes in its ranks.

Membership participation, through the payment of annual dues, helps build the scholarship endowment fund, supports student-athletes' awards and recognition efforts and provides for career development initiatives, such as the Maryland Game Plan resume book for graduating seniors. Members receive information about current teams and news about former teammates through a monthly email newsletter and quarterly printed newsletter.

The M Club provides former student-athletes the opportunity to continue to be involved in Maryland athletics once their eligibility has expired. There are no better ambassadors for Maryland Athletics than those who have competed wearing the red, white, black and gold.

Sport-specific fundraising groups provide a tangible and consistent way to focus fan enthusiasm and support into specific initiatives to benefit a particular Maryland sports program. Members of sport-specific fundraising groups include former players, parents of current players, faculty and staff, and fans of the sport.

The goals of sport-specific fundraising groups are to: (1) raise money for special projects and services for the program not provided for in the annual athletic department budget; (2) sponsor and conduct activities which foster a positive family atmosphere and spirit; and (3) ensure good communication and exchange of information between the coaching staff and its core group of supporters. All funds earned through sport-specific fundraising groups are managed by the University of Maryland College Park Foundation, Inc., for the benefit of the sports program.
