Byrd Stadium Renovation and Expansion
A NEW ERA
A new era in the proud tradition of Maryland Athletics will begin in Fall 2007 with the first extensive expansion to Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium in over a decade.
Phase One
includes the expansion of Tyser Tower along the South concourse, allowing for the addition of 64 suites of varying sizes. Additionally,
mezzanine seating for approximately 500 will be added (featuring heated and covered seating and food service); a University Suite with seating for 200 guests;
new work areas for television, radio and print media; new work areas for coaches and game day operating staff; a new team store; and enhanced seating for disabled
customers. Additionally, a state-of-the-art LED videoboard will be installed, prior to the 2007 season.
Phase Two
includes the installation of railings in the North and South lower bowl to enhance fan safety and comfort; chair back seating in the 200
level on the North side; and new restrooms and concessions on the South side. Additionally, playing field will be lowered to improve sight lines for seats on the
first 10 rows, converting those 3,000 seats from obstructed view to some of the best views in the stadium. It also includes the painting of all of the roofs within
the stadium complex that are currently painted blue.
Future Expansion
includes the addition of nearly 8,000 seats to the 200 level in the West end zone which will bring stadium capacity to about 60,000 seats.
This expansion plan is an ambitious one. Critical to its success is the leasing of all available suites within the expanded Tyser Tower. You can support the proud
tradition and future growth of Maryland Football by partnering with Maryland Athletics on a luxury suite.
INTRODUCING THE NEW TYSER TOWER
Beginning in Fall 2007, the existing Tyser Tower will be dramatically expanded and improved. By the start of the 2009 football season, the new Tyser Tower will
feature five state-of-the-art levels featuring 65 luxury suites, an expanded area for media, and a new team store. The new Tyser Tower will extend from end zone
to end zone, providing symmetry and balance to the stadium.
"Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium is our home. These improvements will dramatically enhance our stadium and attract more people to watch us play. I am
very excited about these projects."
