POSITION TITLE: Terp Host

DEPARTMENT: Intercollegiate Athletics

RESPONSIBILITIES: A Terp Host is responsible for assisting with guest relations items at University of Maryland events. Duties include ushering, security, and other customer-oriented responsibilities. A Terp Host must demonstrate the highest standards of professionalism and productivity as representatives of the University of Maryland Athletics.

While quality guest service is the primary responsibility of Terp Hosts, the following are other responsibilities of Terp Hosts:

  • Handle guest complaints and concerns in a timely, professional manner
  • Know and enforce policies and procedures
  • Respond to all incidents occurring in the assigned position
  • Have knowledge of all credentials and enforce restricted access areas
  • Be Proactive in deterring disruptive behavior
  • Exceed the expectations of Terrapin fans and guests.

  1. You must present a neat personal appearance and comply with the uniform requirements
  2. You must be able to stand for up to 4 hours
  3. You must arrive on time
  4. You must work a minimum number of games with satisfactory job performance
  5. You must carry out directions from supervisors
  6. You must serve the needs of our spectators in a professional and courteous manner
  •  Acknowledge our spectators - meet, greet and volunteer to assist them before they ask
  • Listen carefully to our spectators and respond
  • Take action - give direction; get help; make a report; find an answer; there is always something we, as staff members, can do to assist our spectators
  • Communicate - give explanations not orders, in a voice that is empathetic to our spectators' requests. Diffuse potential situations by remaining calm and offering alternatives

     7. You must work a minimum number of football games, basketball games, spring sport events, as well as special events hosted in Maryland Athletic facilities as outlined in the employee handbook.

QUALIFICATIONS: To join the Terp Host game management staff, you must become a University employee. You must be at least 18 years of age and provide identity and work eligibility documents. This position is not eligible for University Benefits. This is a part time position.

SALARY: Salary is $8.50 per hour

AVAILABLE: Interviews will be begin at the end of June and continue through the beginning of August. This job will not start until mid to late August.
