The Fresh Faces series contines this week with Kelsey Hrebenach. Kelsey starred for the Heritage Pride in Leesburg, Va., and led the Pride to the Virginia AAA Cedar Run District title and Northwest Region title as a junior while earning second team all-district honors. Kelsey was ranked 47th by PrepVolleyball.com in the class of 2012.

Q: What attracted you to Maryland?
Where to start... The location of the university is perfect; close to home so my parents and brother can come see me when they please.  I also love the campus and the atmosphere; it doesn't get any better than this!  Another thing is that the athletic programs are very popular and the athletes get treated amazingly.

Q: Since your father attended Maryland, did you grow up closely following Maryland athletics?
Maryland has always been my dream school, being born in D.C., and living within a relative distance from the university, I have always supported them and cheered its teams on. Definitely tried to make it out to different sports games every season.  Before I started playing volleyball, I played soccer and my dream at the time was to go to UMD to play soccer. (Obviously, that dream changed when I fell in love with volleyball).

Q: You accumulated a lot of accolades at Heritage High School. Is there any accolade you are particularly proud of?
Being a part of National Honor Society was a big deal to me because you had to apply to get in.  It gave me the opportunity to help out in the community so much and I loved it. It is a great feeling to give back and know that people thank you for taking your free time to help others.  I also really enjoyed being an assistant to the athletic director at my high school. It got me even closer to athletics than I already was, and also gave me a "backstage" view to the programs and how everything works.

Q: If you did not play volleyball, what sport would you play and why?
I would probably have been a soccer player. I played it for 11 years before I quit my freshman year of high school to play volleyball.  Like I said earlier, it was a childhood dream to grow up and end up playing soccer at UMD.

Q: What is something that most people do not know about you?
I'm obsessed with Food Network, particularly Diners, Drive Ins and Dives.  My dad and I would watch it together every weekend!

Q: Do you have a superstition?
Whenever I drive by a graveyard, I always hold my breath.  It is little things like those that get to me!

Q: If a celebrity played you in a movie, who would it be and why?
Blake Lively; she is tall, blonde and funny!  Played an athlete in some films and would probably fill the spot perfectly.

Q: If you could spend one day with anyone in history, who would it be and why?
Abraham Lincoln, because my family and I have done all the tours in Washington D.C. about him and he was around during the Civil War.  I have gone to visit most of the battlegrounds with my family and relatives because it was so fascinating and intriguing.

Q: If you were a superhero, what would your power be?
That superhero power changes everyday, and as of right now I would definitely like to fly because it would get me to/from classes, practice and meals around campus MUCH easier! I just love walking/biking up and down all the hills at UMD......
