Maryland alumnus Geroy Simon set the Canadian Football League all-time receiving yards record on Friday by making five catches for 105 yards to reach 15,192 in his career.

Simon, who plays for the BC Lions, surpassed Milt Stegall (15,153 yards) for the record as the Lions dispatched the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 33-16.

Simon had a storied career at Maryland from 1993-96, making 185 catches for 2,059 yards - marks that rank second and fourth, respectively, in school annals.

In 13 seasons in the CFL, 11 of which he has spent with the Lions, Simon has caught 940 passes for 98 touchdowns. He also owns 60 100-yard receiving games.

"I am very proud to achieve this milestone," Simon said after the game. "My sincere thanks go out to my family and both current and former teammates who have been a big part of this record. Their unwavering support has been key to my success on the field. I would be remiss if I did not also acknowledge Milt Stegall whose leadership and work ethic had a significant effect on me early in my career. I am honored to have my name associated with his and Milt's support has been inspirational. As well, my thanks to fans of the BC Lions, it was a thrill to achieve this milestone at home and I am grateful for your enthusiasm."
