As the Terps head down the back stretch of the season with two more dual meets remaining before the ACC Championships and the NCAA Championships, I thought it would be interesting to take a look at where the Terps' points have come from in their 14 duals.
Winning the match is always the ultimate goal, but as many coaches will tell you, how you win is just as important. Earning bonus points can be the difference between a win or a loss.
Here is how team points are scored:
- Decision: A victory by seven or less points. (3 team points)
- Major Decision: A victory between eight and 14 points. (4 team points)
- Technical Fall: A victory by at least 15 points. The match will terminate once the 15-point advantage is reached. (4 team points without a near fall, 5 team points with a near fall)
- Fall: Any part of both shoulders or part of both scapulae of either wrestler held in contact with the mat for one second. (6 team points)
With that in mind, here are the highlights:
- The combination of 13th-ranked Jimmy Sheptock and Corey Peltier has totaled 59 points at 174 which is the most among the 10 weight classes. Sheptock has won all 12 of his duals and has scored bonus points in seven of them (four major decisions, two technical falls and one pin). Peltier has two pins in his two dual-meet appearances at 174.
- Second-ranked Josh Asper has represented the Terps at 165 in all 14 duals and leads the team with 58 points scored. The undefeated Parkton, Md., native leads the team in technical falls (5) with three coming in dual competition. Asper has scored bonus points in eight of his 14 matches.
- Kyle John, ranked 18th at 157, has scored bonus points in all 10 of his dual victories with three via pin.
- At 133, Geoffrey Alexander is one of only two wrestlers to register a technical fall in ACC action.

Surprised to see that Sheptock and Pelletier have outscored Asper. Sheptock has been awesome this year. Am I the only one thinking 4 All-Americans is within reach?
