STILL STREAKING

Maryland garnered its nation-best 27th NCAA Tournament bid Sunday night.  Fans can click here to check out the NCAA Selection Show in its entirety, including Maryland highlights.  The Terps have gone to the postseason 22 consecutive seasons, dating back to 1990.  During that stretch, Maryland has captured 10 NCAA crowns and gone a massive 36-13 in tourney play. The Terps' tournament resume is simply unparalleled.

TERPS - OLD AND NEW - TO ROAM SIDELINES SATURDAY

The two people arguably most responsible for Maryland's lacrosse supremacy will battle for a trip to the NCAA Quarterfinals Saturday.

Former Maryland head coach Cindy Timchal, now in her fourth season at the helm of the Navy program, won eight NCAA titles with the Terps, including a stretch of seven straight.  Current head coach Cathy Reese was an integral part of that run, winning four championships as a player for Timchal and then another three as a Maryland assistant.

After a very brief absence from the national spotlight, Reese returned the Terps to prominence a year ago, hoisting the national championship trophy for the first time since 2001.

Saturday's meeting will be the first ever for the two programs.

EARLY SCOUTING REPORT

We will obviously have more information on the Midshipmen later this week with the release of game notes, but here is the preliminary scouting report on Navy.

·         The Mids rely heavily on Jasmine DePompeo, who boasts 56 goals and 42 assists.  DePompeo is also shooting at a stellar .583 clip.

·         Navy has a fairly high-powered attack, averaging 13.45 goals per game.  The defense is surrendering 9.25 scores per match.  Navy has utilized three different goalkeepers this season.

·         Of Navy's 269 goals this season, 150 have been unassisted and another 36 were scored from the 8-meter.

·         Navy has played only one other top-ten ranked foe this season, welcoming Northwestern early in the season.  The Wildcats ran away with an 18-8 victory, one of five losses for the Mids in 2011.
