Shipley Field at Bob "Turtle"
Smith Stadium is currently undergoing renovations to the field and
backstop behind home plate. The 2011 Terps will be playing on a brand
new infield turf, and a new brick backstop will also be constructed.
Construction started Nov. 8 and is expected to take about four weeks. It marks another in a long line of improvements made to the baseball facilities since Erik Bakich took over as head coach just 17 months ago.
Prior to the 2010 season, an indoor hitting and pitching facility was built between Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium and the Varsity Team House, the baseball locker rooms were upgraded and a new outfield fence was installed, among other things.
In addition to the new infield turf and backstop, two student sections will be added to the baseball stadium on the first- and third-base lines.
