Seniors Mike Letts, Kyle John and Jon Kohler were voted by their teammates and coaches to take on the prestigious role. Letts is a two-time ACC Champ, taking the 174-pound title in 2007 and 2008, and Kohler was the 2008 champion at 141 pounds.
John was runner-up at 157 pounds at the ACC Championship
last season and was one of six Terps to qualify for the NCAA Tournament. He
went 29-13 on the year, including a 17-6 mark in dual meets. He was ranked No.
10 at 157 pounds in Wrestling Insider Newsmagazine's (WIN) preseason poll.
Letts has a career record of 99-20 and is looking to return to old form in his senior season. The Parkersburg, Pa., native won ACC titles in his true freshman and sophomore seasons. After redshirting in 2008-09, an injury cut short his junior (2009-10) season. Letts came in at No. 11 at 174 pounds in WIN's poll.
Kohler, meanwhile, returns to 141 pounds after spending
last season at 149. That should serve him well, as that was the weight he won
his ACC Championship at.
Maryland will hold the Red and Black Wrestle-Offs on Saturday, Oct. 23 at 2 p.m in Comcast Pavilion. The Terps open dual-meet competition with the Terrapin Duals on Saturday, Nov. 6, when West Virginia, Liberty, Johns Hopkins and McDaniel College come to College Park.
