Sophomore Josh Asper and senior Mike Letts were among the top-20 at their respective weight classes in Intermat's preseason Division I wrestling rankings, which were released today.
Ranked No. 5 at the 165 pound weight class, sophomore Josh Asper had a dominant 2009-10 season, in which he finished 34-9 and narrowly missed out on All-American status at the NCAA Championships. Asper was ranked as high as No. 14 last season and was a runner-up at the ACC Championships.
The No. 11-ranked wrestler at 174 pounds, Mike Letts will look to have a healthy senior campaign. As a junior, Letts finished the year 19-4 and 10-3 in dual meets. Letts was ranked as highly as No. 4 by Intermat, but had his season end short in January after suffering an injury.
Asper, Letts and Maryland's other starters will open the 2010-11 season at the Comcast Pavilion on Nov. 6 for the Terrapin Duals, starting at 10 a.m., against Johns Hopkins, Liberty, McDaniel College and West Virginia.
