FB_Blog_Header.jpg Former Terp Madieu Williams is making a difference on and off the field.

Not only is Williams, now entering his third season with the Minnesota Vikings, one of the top free safeties in the NFL, but he is also involved with a number of philanthropic efforts both in the U.S. and abroad.

NBC followed Williams in the spring and will air his story this week to coincide with the start of the 2010 NFL regular season.

Wednesday's NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams, which airs from 6:30 to 7 p.m. ET, will feature the piece on the former Terp during its 'Making a Difference' segment.

NBC and other media outlets picked up on the story last November during the announcement of the Madieu Williams Center for Global Health Initiatives at the School of Public Health.

Williams has done quite a bit of work in his home country of Sierra Leone, Africa, and NBC identified him as someone "Making a Difference."

The TV crew spent a day on the University campus on Maryland Day in April and traveled with Williams to Sierra Leone this summer.

The program airs the day before the Minnesota Vikings' season opener against the New Orleans Saints.

The story is also expected to air on Thursday during the TODAY Show (NBC).

If you miss the broadcast, please check the UM Newsdesk next week for links to it on-line.
