The NFL regular season kicks off Thursday evening so now is good time to take a look at former Terps currently playing in the NFL. At the beginning of the 2010 preseason, Maryland had 36 former players on NFL rosters, which was third among Atlantic Coast Conference squads, trailing just Miami (54) and Florida State (37).
With rosters being trimmed from 80 to 53 over the last week, a number of players were released.
However, there are still 30 former Maryland players on NFL rosters, including 27 who are active to play. Travis Ivey (Cleveland), Edwin Williams (Chicago) and Isaiah Williams (Arizona) are listed on practice squads.
Andrew Crummey (Jacksonville), Dean Muhtadi (Arizona), Dre Moore (Tampa Bay), Jeremy Navarre (Jacksonville), Nick Novak (San Diego) and Terrell Skinner (Indianapolis) were released either during preseason camp or over the last few days.
Maryland remains among the leaders in the ACC as far as sending players to the next level.
The 27 players active on rosters ranks tied for second in the league. Miami has 43 players active in the NFL and Florida State has 27.
Georgia Tech ranks fourth with 23 and North Carolina is fifth (22).
The rest of the schools are as follows: Virginia Tech (21), Virginia, (21), Boston College (19), Clemson (18), N.C. State (15), Wake Forest (14) and Duke (3).
