FB_Blog_Header.jpg After the first two-a-day session of the preseason, the Terps hit the field Tuesday evening for a single workout in shorts and shoulder pads.

It was a day to build off Monday's scrimmage in Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium, the first of the preseason, and make corrections after the coaching staff had a chance to grade the tape.

"Offensively I think we're ahead of where we've been at this point (in the past)," head coach Ralph Friedgen said after Tuesday's two-hour workout at the on-campus facility.

Friedgen saw improvement in the offensive line play, a group who had few missed assignments and allowed the top three tailbacks - Da'Rel Scott, Davin Meggett and D.J. Adams - to average 7.0 yards per carry.

"I thought Justin Lewis played very well," Friedgen said. "He kind of neutralized (Joe) Vellano who didn't make very many plays. (Andrew) Gonnella played pretty good as well."

Jamarr Robinson and Danny O'Brien took the bulk of the snaps in the 100-play scrimmage. Robinson went 6-for-11 for 146 yards with touchdowns, while O'Brien was 8 of 13 for 88 yards and two TDs.

"Jamarr (Robinson) played OK," Friedgen said. "I think there are still some plays he can make."

Friedgen praised Robinson's grasp of the offense and his leadership skills.

"He had a lot of poise and really commanded the game pretty well," Friedgen said.

After allowing the offense to score touchdowns on three of the first seven drives, the defense held the offense to just one field goal in the final six possessions.

"I definitely thought the defense played better as the scrimmage went on, but earlier I thought the offense played better than the defense," Friedgen said.

He also praised a number of players on the defensive side of the ball.

"Defensively, I thought Drew Gloster played very well," Friedgen said. "It might've been the best scrimmage he's had since he's been here. Demetrius Hartsfield played very well also."

Hartsfield had a scrimmage-high seven tackles and Gloster chipped in four tackles, including one sack.

The Terps are scheduled to practice twice on Wednesday, once in the morning and again in the evening, though the forecast calls for heavy rain throughout the day.

Practice Notes: Wide receiver Emani Lee-Odai, who has had an impressive camp, injured a finger during practice when he attempted to block a Nick Ferrara field-goal attempt. He was being evaluated by the medical staff after practice. "Emani had a good scrimmage yesterday," Friedgen said. "He had a reverse for 17 yards and broke about four tackles. Friedgen sees the senior evolving as a player. "He's kind of taking on a leadership role in special teams as well. He's been encouraging other kids to do well and we'll miss him if he's out for a while. He's become a good leader for us." ... the coaching staff is also evaluating the true freshmen to see who may be able to work his way up the depth chart. "I'm trying to find guys that by midyear can be helping us," Friedgen said. "I think (fullback) Rahsaan Moore is one of those guys. Titus Till and Matt Robinson are going to be two of those guys as well."
