Terps Postpone Saturday's Scrimmage, Hold Light Workout

FB_Blog_Header.jpg The Maryland Terrapins postponed their Saturday evening scrimmage in favor of a lighter workout.

The Terps will instead scrimmage on Monday evening after a short workout in the morning. The team is off Sunday.

"I thought long and hard about (having the scrimmage)," head coach Ralph Friedgen said after the team's 90-minute practice Saturday evening. "We've got guys with hip pointers, hip flexors, muscle strains and tired legs."

Friedgen wants as full a complement of players as he can have on the field for the scrimmage, which will be the second and final one of the preseason.

"It's kind of foolish to get anybody hurt where they're all tired," Friedgen said about bumping the scrimmage to Monday. "I hope we come out of this healthy. I want it to be a good scrimmage, because this will be last one before we play."

The Terps also practiced twice Friday and had a solid workout in the evening.

"It was a good practice," Friedgen said of Friday's second workout. "It wasn't long, but we kind of got accomplished what I wanted to get accomplished."

Practices and scrimmages are closed to the general public.

Practice Notes: Friedgen indicated that Devonte Campbell (concussion) and Carl Russell (shoulder) hope to return to practice Monday ... he also noted that Lansford Watson (knee) is likely to have surgery later this week, a procedure which will keep him out for the season ... Friedgen said the team began working on getting ready for Navy during Saturday's practice, which is generally early for the first game of the season, but the Midshipmen's triple-option offense poses significant challenges for an opposing defense.
