Maryland is nearly halfway through spring practice as the Terps held their seventh workout of the five-week spring season Thursday evening.
It marked the first workout for the Terps since the team went through a scrimmage-type practice on Saturday.
Head coach Ralph Friedgen was pleased with Saturday's practice after watching film.
"I thought we got a lot done," Friedgen said after Tuesday practice. "I thought our offense started out slow. We had 3 three-and-outs and a lot of self-inflicted wounds. Then they got better as the scrimmage went on and actually did a lot of good things."
It took some of the younger players a few snaps to get used to the tempo.
"Our young kids had deer-in-headlights looks, but that's to be expected," Friedgen. "Hopefully, as we get those guys more looks, they'll get better."
The Terps also worked on third-down and goal-line situations.
"We had a good set of goal-line drills," Friedgen said. "It wasn't a lot of finesse. We lined up and ran one play and they ran one defense and we got about 20 plays of that. Third down, I think the offense was ahead. Out of 14 third downs, the offense won eight of them. We emphasize third down a lot. We got about 35 plays per team and nobody got hurt so I thought it was a productive scrimmage. We got some things to teach off of. I thought it was a very good day at practice."
The Terps will be in a game-like setting over much of the final three weeks as the team will scrimmage twice and hold the Red-White Spring game on Saturday, April 24.
