SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The No. 21 University of Maryland women’s soccer team suffered a 5-0 defeat at No. 3 Notre Dame Thursday night at Alumni Stadium.

The loss drops the Terps to 6-4-0 on the season and evens their ACC mark at 2-2-0. The Fighting Irish improve to 8-1-0 on the year and stay unbeaten in conference play at 4-0-0.

Maryland had the first great chance of the game in the fourth minute when senior Megan Gibbons was alone on ND keeper Kaela Little. Gibbons’ shot from near the top of the six was smothered by Little to keep the game scoreless.

Notre Dame took a 1-0 lead in the 32nd minute when a turnover in Maryland’s defensive third gave the ball to Lauren Bohaboy. She played it through to Cari Roacarro, who finished from the left side with an early ball inside the far right post.

The Terrapins nearly evened the match at a goal apiece in the 44th minute when freshman Lauren Berman’s drive from 23 yards bounced off the underside of the crossbar, but the ball came down on the field side of the goal line and Little was there to catch it on the bounce.

The Irish took advantage of the counter attack as the first half and Crystal Thomas redirected a cross from Elizabeth Tucker with six seconds left on the clock to give Notre Dame a 2-0 lead.

The second half saw Rocarro score in the 55th and 60th minutes to finish her hat trick and Anna Gilbertson put one in from distance in the 78th minute.

“Notre Dame is a very dynamic team with a lot of special players and to spot a team with their quality three goals you are going to be dead in the water,” said Maryland head coach Jonathan Morgan. “We were not disciplined tonight and that's not the players’ fault, that's mine. I have to do a better job of preparing my team.

“We have another opportunity on Sunday to get a positive result, so we'll prepare and find a way to get it done.”

The Terps return to action on Sunday, Sept. 29 when Maryland travels to Charlottesville, Va., to face No. 1 Virginia in a 2 p.m. match at Klockner Stadium. That match will be streamed live on NSCAA.tv.
