The University of Maryland men’s soccer program mingled with over 1,800 fans Thursday night as it celebrated the 10th anniversary of The Crew.

The Terps distributed 1,800 free scarves to their loyal fan base at Ludwig Field following their final practice before facing Duke in a highly-anticipated Atlantic Coast Conference showdown Friday night.

“I never could have imagined this many people coming out the night before a game,” Crew president Dillon French, said. “It just shows that there is so much excitement and there are so many people aware that this is going on. It’s perfect. I love it.

“In 2003, when everything started, it was pretty small and then today we have over 1,800 kids show up for a free scarf. Every generation it gets a little bit bigger and a little bit better and that’s the goal.”

The Crew was officially formed in 2003 when the Terps faced UCLA in the home opener after falling to the Bruins in the College Cup a year prior. Since then, Maryland has lost 10 games at Ludwig Field.

“This was an incredible event for our program,” head coach Sasho Cirovski, said. "The dedication and passion shown by our fans is second to none in the game of college soccer. We were delighted to meet so many of them and show gratitude for their unwavering support.”

The Terps face Duke in the final scheduled meeting between the two programs Friday at 7:30 p.m. The game will be shown live on NSCAATV.com.
