The Maryland gymnastics team celebrated its stellar 2013 season Friday afternoon with the squad's annual banquet.
Family and friends, as well as university administrators, were in attendance to honor the Terps, who spent the year consistently ranked in the top 25, and finished 22nd nationally as a team.
Sophomore Stephanie Giameo and senior Kesley Cofsky were named co-MVPs for the season. Giameo earned regular-season first-team NACGC/W All-America balance beam honors after finishing the season ranked eighth nationally in the event and anchoring the Terps on the apparatus. Giameo tied the program-record on beam with a 9.950. In her first season competing in the all-around, the Roselle Park, N.J., native earned EAGL Gymnast of the Year honors. Giameo earned All-EAGL first team honors on beam and all-around.
Cofsky finished a successful Terps career by being named the 2013 EAGL Outstanding Senior Gymnast. The Walpole, Mass., native competed in the all-around in every meet this season, and set new personal bests on each apparatus. Cofsky earned All-EAGL first team honors for the all-around and balance beam.
Freshman Kathy Tang earned Rookie of the Year honors. Despite only competing in five regular season meets due to injury, the Agawam, Mass., native earned EAGL Gymnast of the Week honors following her all-around performance against Pitt, Cornell and Temple (1/19), and twice earned EAGL Rookie of the Week honors.
Head coach Dani Kram and Alex Zimmermann (Comeback Kids), and Ally Krikorian and Katy Dodds (Specialist). Giameo also earned the Positive Mental Attitude Award and TNT Dynamite Beam Award while Cofsky shared the Leadership award with Krikorian and Walters.
Maryland gymnastics celebrated one of its best campaigns in program history. The team finished the season with a 195.810 RQS, the highest in program history, as well as earning a team-best 10 EAGL wins during the regular season. Maryland excelled on vault, setting a team-record 49.300 in the event against Pittsburgh, Cornell and Temple. Junior Katy Dodds set a program-record 9.975 on vault against NC State.
The Terps ended their season at the NCAA Gainesville Regional Championship, where the team posted its second-highest score in program history with a 195.575. Maryland also earned its second-highest finish at regionals.
The banquet concluded with the viewing of the team's 2013 highlights.
