COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Postgame quotes following Maryland's 67-45 victory over Morehead State Monday night at Comcast Center.

Head Coach Mark Turgeon

Opening statement:
"I am really pleased. I think people are going to look at that score and say that Maryland is supposed to beat Morehead State by 22, but I didn't feel that way going in. They had a great win and a lot of confidence coming in to this game. They play hard and are well coached. We talked about two things from the Kentucky game--we wanted to be better defensively, we have put together three good halves in a row, and we wanted to share the ball more and shoot the ball at a higher percentage and we did that. I thought we rebounded well. They ended up with 15 offensive rebounds, but I thought we rebounded well. The only thing we didn't do well was take care of the basketball. They had a lot of pressure. That was good for us, the little guys getting up in us and pressuring us. Their point guard [Devon Atkinson], he ran out of gas but he really pressured us and got after us. In the end it was a really good game for us."

On the team's depth:
"Thank god we have depth because I think some guys get tired pretty quickly. There are some guys who aren't in great shape right now. They don't practice hard enough to be in great shape. They don't practice hard every day. It was evident that we wore them down. They made a run in the second half, and good teams that are well coached will do that. We sustained it and ran it down. We didn't shoot the ball well. We had 62 with a few minutes left in the game and only ended up with 67. We wanted to hold them under 50, and we were able to do that. We have great depth. The hardest thing for me today was getting guys in the game. Guys were playing good and I had to take them out. Our guys all have great attitudes about it. James Padgett played 13 minutes and it was 13 really good minutes. That allowed me to play Charles [Mitchell] and Shaq [Cleare]. They may not have deserved it but it helps our team in the long run."

On concerns today would be a let-down game:
"No because we lost. I don't read the stuff but I know some people were satisfied with the loss, but we weren't. We didn't go to lose. I felt like we gave the game away up there. We got after them pretty hard. We watched film and had individual meetings Saturday night. We practiced twice on Sunday. We got after them pretty hard. Our expectations for this team are to get better every day and play at a high level. I told the team I don't know how good Kentucky is but I think the team in this room can be pretty good before the year is over. We need to listen a little more and have some more effort in practice. We have seen a big stride already since the exhibition game until now."

On the team's shooting:
"I think we were all amped up [for the Kentucky] game. I did a poor job coaching that first half. We didn't make any jumpers at the start of this game either. We missed a lot of jump shots. Jake [Layman] hit that one in the corner, but that was about it. The second half we made jump shots and it makes our offense look a lot better. We just wore them down getting in a rhythm offensively. We are missing a lot of shots that we are going to make as the year goes on. We need to get used to the system and playing in front of people. I think we are demanding them to execute a little better. I didn't like our assist-to-turnover ratio tonight, but credit Morehead State tonight."

Sophomore Guard/Forward Dez Wells

On playing his first game in Comcast Center:

"It was amazing. I would like for the crowd to be a little more packed than it was tonight, but that will come as long as things continue to come along. It was a great experience. There's nothing like going out on the floor with those guys. I enjoyed it."

On the offense:
"We're getting there. It's a work in progress. We're getting better every day in practice and by game 10 it should be a lot better than in game two."

On the team's depth:
"It's amazing. This is probably the deepest team I've played on as far as having players just come out. We have two players at each position who can just come in and go, so it's great for the depth on our team and it's easier for coach to coach us because we're hungry and we're dedicated and we want to be good."

On the defense:
"Coach emphasizes defense a lot. He wants us to be one of the best defenses in the country and we take on that challenge, so I think we will be a really good defensive team like I said going on, game by game. With experience, we will get better."

On playing together:
`We have a good feel for each other. We always hit the open man and we're not a selfish team. We don't really care who scores the most points, as long as we win, that's the only thing we care about."

Senior Forward James Padgett

On the team's depth:

"It is a luxury having guys come in and us not losing anything as a team. It makes our team really good."

On atmosphere of this game coming off of Kentucky:
"It was a great atmosphere. We had a lot of fans, and a lot of people supporting us. This was also a great game. I think we came out strong, but I am not sure if it was the same intensity as in Kentucky. We had the mentality to play hard even if they were not our top competition."

On the offense's progress:
"We are working on pieces, but we are constantly getting better every day. We work on different kinds of plays and getting new guys involved. The new guys have to learn positions that they may not be used to--so it is hard to keep things moving quickly at this point in the season. We are picking it up steadily."

On the play of the freshmen:
"[Jake] Layman and a couple of our freshmen played great tonight. As time goes on they'll get more comfortable with the atmosphere and playing games night in and night out. They guys are going to continue to get more comfortable and get better."

Sophomore Guard Nick Faust:

On depth of line changes:

"I know it is a great feeling for Coach [Turgeon]. We have a lot of players this year that can do a lot for the team. We definitely have more depth this year, so it keeps us honest on the court. Each of us has to play hard every minute we are on the floor for every play.

On having two practices yesterday:
"Coach emphasizes team play, he wants us all to play together. Guys, including me, took a lot of shots in the Kentucky game. We took risks in taking difficult shots, and today there was more emphasis on team play and passing. We came out and executed and did what we could to give the team the best shot."

On team effort today:
"It definately felt like more of a team effort today. Everyone contributed and played their part. Everyone can score, and as long as we win that is the only thing that matters."

Morehead State Coach Sean Woods

Opening statement:
"This was ugly. I felt good going into the game, but when you can't make shots in an environment like this, it's hard to make it up. I thought the first three or four minutes of the game we got wide open looks, but they just didn't go in. You've got to be able to make shots and shoot a good percentage to beat a team like this."

On Maryland's defense:
"I thought we got the shots we wanted early and we just lost our confidence. We knew it was going to be a tough task to get low post play because they are so big and strong. That's when our guys lost their confidence. On the drives they were just throwing it up. In the second half, we started to settle down a bit, going to the dribble drive to spread them out. We had some success; but I thought Coach Turgeon made a good adjustment of closing out a little bit, and we just didn't make an adjustment."

On trying to come back in the second half:
"We just didn't make any big shots when we needed to. We got to the rim and missed a couple jump shots, and they took advantage. You can't let a good team like this off the hook, and we did. The score tells us that."

On their defense
"Defensively, I thought we did enough. We held them to 37 percent in the first half--but when you can't make shots as a team, they are going to score. You can't keep a good team down without scoring. I thought they did a good job keeping us out of the paint and that led to their scoring. They went on barrages and we just didn't score enough."
