COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- The 13th-ranked Maryland women's basketball team (1-0) will host 2017 NCAA Champion and No. 2 South Carolina (1-0) Monday at 7 p.m. in the Terrapins' annual White Out game at the XFINITY Center. For tickets, visit the Terrapin Ticket Office online here or call 1-800-IM-A-TERP.
The first 2,000 fans at the game will receive a "White Out" T-shirt and all fans are encouraged to wear white. Doors will open at 6 p.m.
Due to the weekday traffic on campus, fans planning on attending the South Carolina game are advised to leave extra time to park. Fans are encouraged to enter campus off of MD-193 and park in the Terrapin Trail Garage, which opens at 5 p.m. Fans are also encouraged to follow the directions of traffic control staff, as traffic patterns may change. Fans with disability tags will be directed to park in the Terrapin Trail Garage, once the handicap parking spaces in the surface lots are full. Fans can enter the arena from the Terrapin Trail Garage through gates E and F.
CLEAR BAG POLICY
Fans are reminded that the Maryland clear bag policy will be in effect for Monday's game and all games at the XFINITY Center. Fans will only be able to carry the following style and size bags into the arena.
- Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12” x 6” x 12”
- One gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar)
- Small clutch bags, measuring 4.5” x 6.5” with or without a handle or strap
All other bags will not be permitted. A list of prohibited bags includes, but is not limited to: purses, backpacks, drawstring bags that are not clear, briefcases, coolers, fanny packs, luggage, computer bags, camera bags, binocular cases and diaper bags. This is just the second meeting between Maryland and South Carolina, with the Terps taking the first matchup, 74-60, in December 1997.
The Terrapins beat 2017 NCAA Tournament team Albany, 91-58, Friday in their opener at the XFINITY Center. Sophomore Stephanie Jones had 11 points, 18 boards and six steals, Sophomore Blair Watson scored 16 points, and junior Brianna Fraser added 14 points and 10 boards. Sophomore Kaila Charles, freshman Channise Lewis and senior Kristen Confroy also hit double figures.
Maryland will begin the season ranked No. 15 in the Associated Press preseason poll and No. 13 in the USA Today Coaches Preseason poll.
The Terrapins were picked to finish second in the Big Ten by both the league's head coaches and media panel. Charles was also named to the Preseason All-Big Ten Team. Charles, a Glenn Dale, Md. native, earned All-Big Ten Freshman Team honors last year after starting in all 35 games for Maryland. She averaged 9.7 points and 5.6 rebounds per game.
Charles was named to the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award Watch List Tuesday as one of 20 of the nation's top shooting guard. Fraser was named to the Cheryl Miller Award Watch List Wednesday as one of the nation's top small forwards.
After Monday's contest, Maryland will host Niagara Thursday at 11 a.m. for the Terps' annual Field Trip Day game. The Terrapins will welcome over 5,000 local elementary and middle school students for the game.
A limited amount of parking is available for the Field Trip Day game for season ticket holders in Lot 4B or XFINITY Visitors Lot (XVL) free of charge. Fans parked in other lots around the XFINITY Center are subject to ticketing.
