Throughout the season, will introduce the Maryland community to each of its new players. The “Better Know a Terp” series continues with Jarena Harmon.

Season Report: Harmon has been a breakout star for the Terps on offense after transferring from Pittsburgh. She has eight goals, which ranks second on the team and sixth in the Big Ten. She earned Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honors after a hat trick against William & Mary.

Before Maryland: Scored seven goals in her freshman season at Pittsburgh. Went to Pitt after a standout career at St. Andrew’s Episcopal in Washington, D.C. where she scored 98 goals for her career and was a three-time Washington Post All-Metro selection.

Quick Hits When did you start playing soccer?
Jarena Harmon: Three or four years old. How did you get into it?
Jarena Harmon:  My dad coached and my older brother played. What other sports did you play as a kid?
Jarena Harmon: A lot! I pretty much tried everything from basketball and track. Played softball in middle school. I tried everything. Who is your favorite soccer player?
Jarena Harmon: Neymar. He’s young, talented and very gifted. You can just tell he loves the game. What’s your favorite thing about College Park non-soccer related?
Jarena Harmon: Knowing that my family is really close and them being able to come to my games. That’s good stuff. What is your favorite part of College Park soccer related?
Jarena Harmon: Being able to finally play here. It’s just awesome to play for Maryland. What does it mean to play so close to home?
Jarena Harmon: It means that all that I’ve done playing in the DMV area is kind of coming full circle for me. What is your favorite place to eat in College Park?
Jarena Harmon: Chipotle, but there’s also Chick-fil-A here. So both of those. What is your favorite pump-up song?
Jarena Harmon: Party Up in Here by DMX. What TV show are you watching right now?
Jarena Harmon: School work! Honestly, I don’t really have one right now. What is your favorite TV show of all time?
Jarena Harmon: Invader Zim. Favorite pregame meal?
Jarena Harmon: Anything with cheese in it. Favorite thing to do on a soccer field?
Jarena Harmon: Win.
