COLLEGE PARK, Md. - After helping the No. 5/2 Maryland women’s lacrosse team to two wins this past week, senior attacker Megan Whittle and sophomore defender Lizzie Colson earned Big Ten weekly honors Tuesday. Whittle was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week while Colson was selected as Big Ten Defensive of the Week.
In a pair of home wins over UMBC and Hofstra, Whittle totaled a team-best 14 points (12 goals, two assists) on just 20 shots on goal, including a nine-for-10 mark on free position shots. Against UMBC, the senior matched her career-high with seven goals while also passing Taylor Cummings in the all-time goal ranks at Maryland. Against Hofstra, Whittle led the team with seven points (five goals, two assists), while climbing to second in the all-time goal ranks.
Colson tied for the team-lead with four groundballs in the two wins, while also notching seven draw controls and one caused turnover. On the season, the sophomore leads the Terps with 12 groundballs and six caused turnovers.
Whittle and Colson’s honors mark the second time this season each player has won their respective award.
The No. 5/2 Terps will hit the road this weekend to take on No. 8 Syracuse at the Carrier Dome on Sunday, March 11 at 1:00 p.m.
