ROSEMONT, Ill. – After scoring a team-high five goals to lead the No. 1 Maryland women’s lacrosse team to a 16-14 road win over then-No. 5 Florida last Saturday, senior attacker Megan Whittle earned Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week honors, the league announced on Tuesday.
With Maryland (2-0) leading 12-9 midway through the second half, Whittle scored three straight goals in a 1:29 span to put the game out of reach. She was 3-for-4 on 8-meter shots and also led the Terps with five draw controls.
Through two games, Whittle leads the Terps with nine goals and 10 points, while standing tied for the Big Ten lead with 4.5 goals per game.
This honor marks Whittle’s ninth career Big Ten weekly recognition after being named Big Ten Freshman of the Week six times in 2015 and Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week twice in 2017.
Maryland will play its second straight road contest against a Top 10 opponent as the Terps travel to No. 8 North Carolina on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
