COLLEGE PARK, Md. - As the Terps continue 2018 preseason training, the Maryland women's lacrosse team has selected seniors Taylor Hensh and Megan Whittle and juniors Julia Braig and Jen Giles as team captains for the upcoming season.
"The team votes on our captains each year and I think they picked four outstanding leaders this year," head coach Cathy Reese said. "Taylor, Whittle, Julia and Jenny are all so hardworking both on and off the field and are great examples for their teammates. They have helped this program to great success, and we're confident they'll be ready to lead the Terps this season."
In their three years in College Park, Hensh and Whittle have helped Maryland to a 63-2 overall record, including a 36-0 record. The duo have won two NCAA Championships, three Big Ten regular season titles and two Big Ten Tournament titles. Both attackers on Maryland's highly potent offense, Hensh and Whittle have combined for 285 career goals and 323 career points. Whittle is a three-time All-American, including second team honors last year.
Braig and Giles were both starters on last season's national championship team. Braig led the team with 27 caused turnovers as a defensive leader while Giles was second on the team with 32 assists. The sophomores were both named Inside Lacrosse Media Honorable Mention All-Americans.
The Terps open the 2018 season against William & Mary at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex on Sunday, Feb. 11.
