COLLEGE PARK, Md. – After leading the Terps to two wins last week, midfielders Zoe Stukenberg and Kali Hartshorn were named Big Ten Defensive Player and Freshman of the Week Tuesday.
Stukenberg caused three turnovers and picked up five ground balls in an 18-12 win over No. 7 Princeton last Wednesday. She also had two caused turnovers and four ground balls in an 18-9 win over Ohio State on Saturday. Stukenberg also had five goals, one assist and eight draw controls in two games.
The Ellicott City, Md., native is the first field player to earn Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors this season and is the first player in 2017 to earn both offensive and defensive accolades.
Hartshorn earned her fourth freshman of the week honors after posting five goals and six points against Princeton, which came into the game with the seventh-ranked defense nationally. She followed up with four goals against Ohio State. Hartshorn has been on an offensive hot streak recently and has 15 goals and 17 points in the last three games.
The top-ranked Terps (15-0, 4-0 B1G) are back in action next Thursday, April 20, at No. 5 Penn State (14-1, 4-0) at 7 p.m. on the Big Ten Network.
