COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Each week during the 2017-18 season a Maryland student-athlete, who has shown excellence on and off the playing field, will be selected as the Solomon Eye Associates Terp of the Week. This week’s Solomon Eye Associates Terp of the Week is Sam Shoultz from the Maryland track and field team.
Shoultz set a UVA facility record and tied a Maryland school record in the high jump at the UVA Quad Meet last Friday. Shoutlz hit a clearance over 2.24m (7’4 ¼”). This tied the current University of Maryland school record set by Mike Pascuzzo in 1982. In addition, this jump pushed Shoultz ahead of his high jump coach, Jonathan Hill, who previously held the number two spot in this event at 7’3 ¾”.
The 2.24m mark by Shoultz is the fourth highest mark by any high jumper in the country so far this outdoor season.
The Terps will have an off weekend coming up before entering the UVA Challenge back at Lannigan field on April 20th-21st as well as sending a group to the Larry Ellis Invitational in Princeton the same weekend.
