COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Each week during the 2017-18 season a Maryland student-athlete, who has shown excellence on and off the playing field, will be selected as the Solomon Eye Associates Terp of the Week. This week’s Solomon Eye Associates Terp of the Week is Kaila Charles of women's basketball.
Kaila Charles carried No. 9 Maryland (20-3, 9-1 B1G) to two wins and a two-game lead at the top of the Big Ten standings this week. The sophomore averaged 23.5 points, 11.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 2.0 blocks and shot 69 percent from the field in two victories.
Against Rutgers Thursday, she was 9-for -13 from the field for a team-high 22 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and a steal. She held the Scarlet Knights' leading scorer, Tyler Scaife, to a season-low 6 points. At Nebraska Sunday, she scored 10 straight points over the first and second quarters to carry the Terps. She finished with 25 points, a career-high 16 rebounds, 3 blocks, 2 assists and went 11-for-16 from the floor. She helped hold all five Huskers starters in single digits. She is No. 7 in the Big Ten in scoring, No. 8 in rebounds and No. 4 in field goal percentage.
