This is Maryland's first matchup with Albany, but Great Danes head coach Joanna Bernabei-McNamee was an assistant coach at Maryland from 2003 through the 2006-07 season. She was a part of the 2006 NCAA Championship team.

Maryland beat Glenville State, 130-61, and Bowie State, 98-47, in its two exhibitions. Kaila Charles and Stephanie Jones scored 27 points vs. Glenville State and Blair Watson had 30 points vs. Bowie State.

The Terrapins begin the season ranked No. 15 in the Associated Press preseason poll and No. 13 in the USA Today Preseason Coaches poll.

Maryland earned a record of 32-3 last season, finishing the year ranked No. 4 in the final Associated Press poll. The Terps won their third straight Big Ten regular season and tournament titles and advanced to the Sweet Sixteen.

The Terrapins were picked to finish second in the Big Ten by both the league's head coaches and media panel. Sophomore Kaila Charles was also named to the Preseason All-Big Ten Team. Charles, a Glenn Dale, Md. native, earned All-Big Ten Freshman Team honors last year after starting in all 35 games for Maryland. She averaged 9.7 points and 5.6 rebounds per game.

Charles was named to the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award Watch List Tuesday as one of 20 of the nation's top shooting guard. Brianna Fraser was named to the Cheryl Miller Award Watch List Wednesday as one of the nation's top small forwards.

The Terps were selected to represent the USA in the World University games this summer in Taipei, Taiwan. The U.S. went 5-1 in the tournament, earning wins over Canada, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Poland and Uganda.

Head coach Brenda Frese signed the No. 4 recruiting class in the country earlier this week, making it 12 top 10 recruiting classes in her 16 years in College Park. The Terrapins will welcome 6-5 forward Shakira Austin (Fredericksburg, Va.), 5-9 guard Taylor Mikesell (Massillon, Ohio) and 6-4 post Olivia Owens (Niskayuna, N.Y.) next summer. Austin is ranked No. 3 overall, per ESPN, Mikesell is No. 32 and Owens is No. 33.

After Friday's opener, the Terrapins will host 2017 NCAA Champion No. 4/2 South Carolina Monday at 7 p.m. at the XFINITY Center in the Terps' annual "White Out" game. The matchup will be televised around the world on ESPN2. For tickets, visit the Terrapin Ticket Office online here or call 1-800-IM-A-TERP.
