COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland basketball great Greivis Vásquez will return to the University of Maryland Sunday, January 28 to attend Maryland’s 1:00 pm game vs. Michigan State at the XFINITY Center.

Maryland will be hosting the Greivis Vásquez Foundation notebook drive prior to the game. Fans are encouraged to donate unused notebooks, paper, pencils, pens and other school supplies. Gates A-E will have receptacles available for donations prior to tip.

Vásquez’s community work in College Park has extended past his playing days in a Terrapin uniform, as the Caracas, Venezuela native has hosted the Back to School Backpack Bash the past four years at the College Park Community Center. The event provides free school supplies and backpacks for children in attendance prior to the start of each school year.

Greivis Vásquez, with his passion for youth and being a professional basketball player, he was compelled to start the Greivis Vásquez Foundation after graduating from Maryland in 2010. Today, his foundation is built with the purpose of providing assistance for children, families, and communities in need. Focusing on creating impactful programs for long term, wide scale improvements of the world through love. Last year, Greivis and the GV Foundation visited nearly every state in Venezuela reaching over 12,000 children across the country.

Vásquez compiled one of the most storied careers in Maryland basketball history, finishing as the only player in ACC history to compile at least 2,000 points, 700 assists and 600 rebounds. As a senior, he was awarded the 2010 Bob Cousy Award given by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame to the nation's best collegiate point guard.
