ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Maryland will take on the United States Naval Academy next season in the 2018 Veterans Classic at Alumni Hall as officially announced today. The 2018 Veterans Classic will be the fifth edition of the annual men’s basketball doubleheader hosted by Navy.
The game will revitalize a head-to-head series that dates back to the 1924-25 season, when the teams first played at the Naval Academy. The Terps lead the all-time series 30-27.
The schools have not met since March 17, 1985 when Maryland earned a 64-59 victory in the second round of the 1985 NCAA Tournament. That matchup saw Maryland legend Len Bias take on future NBA All-Star David Robinson, as Bias led the Terps to a Sweet 16 appearance with 20 points and eight rebounds.
Navy and Maryland will play in the nightcap of the 2018 Veterans Classic doubleheader. The other two participating teams for next year’s event will be announced at a later date.
