COLLEGE PARK, Md. – After a standout week, including a historic performance on Saturday, Maryland senior outfielder Will Watson earned Big Ten Player of the Week and Collegiate Baseball Newspaper National Player of the Week honors on Monday.
Watson batted .500, racked up 12 RBIs, scored six times and hit three home runs. The Monroe, La., native was outstanding in Saturday’s 17-2 win over Rutgers, collecting eight RBIs, which tied a school record. Watson’s seven RBIs in the third inning set a school record and is the second most in NCAA history. He hit two home runs in that inning.
Watson had multi-hit games in all four of Maryland’s contest this week, raising his average from .208 and .252. The honors are the first of Watson’s career.
Maryland returns to action this week at Indiana for a three game series. First pitch for Thursday’s series opener is set for 7 p.m. on BTN.
