COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Northwestern scored seven runs in the fifth inning to take an 11-3 win against Maryland at Bob “Turtle” Smith Stadium Saturday afternoon.

The Terrapins (33-16, 15-8 Big Ten) took a 2-1 lead after three innings, but Northwestern scored seven runs in the fifth to blow the game open. Senior Brandon Gum and sophomore AJ Lee both had two hits.

The third inning started off with a Northwestern home run, but in the bottom half of the inning junior Justin Morris smacked home run of his own to right field to tie it. Sophomore Marty Costes then drove in junior Zach Jancarski as a result of a Northwestern fielder's choice. 

The Wildcats did their damage in the fourth and fifth inning, scoring nine runs on six hits over two frames.. Freshman Tyler Blohm left the game after four innings of work surrendering two runs. He is now 8-5 on the year.

Redshirt senior Jared Price came in relief to get Maryland out of the fifth and then tossed a scoreless sixth inning for the Terps. Sophomore Hunter Parsons threw a scoreless seventh and eighth inning. Sophomore Nick Dunn hit a blast over the right field wall in the bottom of the eighth inning to grab a run back for Maryland.

Sophomore Cameron Enck came on to relieve Parsons and got the Terrapins out of a bases-loaded jam in the ninth.

It is the second loss at home this season for the Terps (20-2). Lee has now reached base in a team high 12 straight games.

Maryland and Northwestern finish their three-game series Sunday afternoon at Bob “Turtle” Smith Stadium. Coverage of the game can be heard live on Maryland Baseball Network at 1 p.m.
