COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Maryland women's tennis head coach Daria Panova announced Thursday the addition of redshirt sophomore transfer Amber Policare for the 2018-19 season. Policare will come to College Park after spending two collegiate seasons at Kansas. She will have three years of eligibility remaining and will be able to compete at the beginning of the 2018-19 season.
"We are very thrilled to add Amber to our team," Panova said. "She is a strong player and will add experience to our roster with a year and a half of tennis already under her belt. She played for a strong team at Kansas and we're excited for what she will bring to our team both on and off the court."
A fixture in the starting lineup for the 18th-ranked Jayhawks this season, Policare will join a Maryland team that advanced to the Big Ten Championships quarterfinals for the third-consecutive season.
Policare picked up a pair of wins at the fifth and sixth spots of Kansas' singles lineup, while tallying eight doubles victories in her redshirt freshman campaign. Four of those doubles wins came in Big 12 play, where Policare primarily played in the second doubles spot of the Jayhawks' lineup.
Her final doubles match of the season ended in an upset victory over No. 76 Lavashova/Milovanovic of Pepperdine in the NCAA Championships.
The Long Beach, N.Y., native had a prestigious high school career, coming into collegiate action as a five-star recruit and the top player in the state of New York by tennisrecruiting.net. She was also the second-ranked player in the Middle Atlantic region.
When she signed to play collegiate tennis, she was the 27th-ranked player in the United States. She has also been ranked as high as 16th in the country.
