COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland women’s tennis team will begin the 2017-18 season with a strong fall tournament schedule, head coach Daria Panova announced Wednesday.
"I'm really excited about the upcoming fall season," Panova said. "We have a lot of new players and fresh faces this year and we're looking forward to seeing them and our returing payers compete in what should be a highly competitive fall schedule."
Maryland will kick off the fall slate with the Bedford Cup, which takes place at the College Park Tennis Club on Sept. 15-18. The Terps will then head to Philadelphia to participate in the Cissie Leary Invitational hosted by the University of Pennsylvania, on Sept. 22-24.
The Terps will then make their first of two trips to California this season, with a portion of the squad heading to the Golden State for the ITA All-American Championships on Oct. 3-8. Maryland will then take a few weeks off before traveling as a full team to ITA Regionals at Virginia Tech on Oct. 20-23. A trip to the Kansas Invitational will close out October as Maryland will make its first fall trip to Lawrence in over two decades.
Maryland will close out its fall slate with a split-squad weekend. The Terps will head to the Kitty Harrison Invitational hosted by the University of North Carolina for the sixth consecutive season on Nov. 3-5. If any Terps qualify for ITA National Indoors, they will head to Flushing, NY, for the prestigious event on that same weekend.
Maryland’s 2016 fall campaign was one for the record books, with the Terps taking home five doubles titles. Seniors Alexandra Stanova and Kristina Hovsepyan led the way, winning the doubles title at ITA Regionals and qualifying for the ITA National Indoor tournament at the end of the season.
