EUGENE, Ore. – Sophomore Greg Thompson wrapped up a breakout 2017 season Friday as he competed in the men's discus at the NCAA Championships. The London, England native took 15th in the field and sixth in his flight to earn Second Team All-American honors with a throw of 183-9 (56.01m) in his first career NCAA appearance.
Thompson had a massive season in the event for Maryland, breaking the school record with a throw of 197-9 (60.28m) at the Kehoe Twilight Meet. The mark broke Alan Baginski's 34-year school record in the event (196-00 – 1983), and Thompson was named the Big Ten Men's Field Athlete of the Week for his efforts.
Thompson made it to the podium at the Big Ten Championships this season, and will again be a force for the Terps when he returns for his junior season.
