COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland men’s lacrosse junior goalkeeper Dan Morris has been named Big Ten Co-Specialist of the Week and senior attackman Matt Rambo has been named Offensive Player of the Week as announced Tuesday by the Big Ten Conference.
Morris was also named the Epoch/US Lacrosse National Player of the Week Monday by USLacrosse Magazine.
Morris totaled 28 saves to lead Maryland to a massive week with road wins against No. 5 Albany and No. 11 Rutgers. He had 12 saves against Albany and allowed just 11 goals, holding the nation's highest scoring team five goals below its season average. He then topped that performance with a career-high 16 saves against Rutgers, which included five improbable saves in the overtime periods.
Rambo also had a big week for the Terps as the offensive catalyst, totaling nine points on four goals and five assists. Rambo posted three points (2g, 1a) against Albany, before closing out a monster game against Rutgers with 6 points on two goals and four assists. He continues to lead the Big Ten in both points (4.7/g) and assists (2.2/g).
Rambo is inching closer to the Maryland all-time points and goals records. He needs just 11 points to break Bob Boneillo’s all-time points record (231) and 14 goals to break Joe Walters’ all-time goals record (153).
Morris, Rambo and the Terrapins return to action this weekend when they face No. 7 Ohio State in Columbus on Saturday at 2 pm on ESPNews. Maryland can clinch at least a share of the its third straight Big Ten regular season title with a win.
