WASHINGTON, D.C. – The 2016 Maryland Pride Tour traveled to the Smithsonian’s National Zoo as Terrapin coaches, student-athletes and athletic department staff met with fans Thursday.

Head coaches DJ Durkin (football), Steve Aird (volleyball), Kerry McCoy (wrestling) and Brett Nelligan (gymnastics) addressed nearly 300 Maryland fans at the event, held at the Elephant Community Center.

“We want to continue to bring outstanding student-athletes to our program and university,” Durkin said. “We appreciate the support at events like tonight at the zoo. It’s great to get a chance to visit with fans and have fun.”

Longtime Maryland Sports Radio Network analyst Chris Knoche emceed the event after the coaches, their families and fans toured around the zoo.

“We have some great fans at Maryland who come out and support the team and the department at events like tonight,” Aird said. “Having this event at the National Zoo and being able to bring my family to share in this is pretty special.”

Student-athletes from volleyball and wrestling attended the event. Each team raffled off a gift bag and team gear.
