GREENSBORO, N.C. - Maryland junior defender Megan Douty has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season, the league office announced Tuesday.
Douty was crucial to two strong defensive performances last week for the Terps as they held their 12th and 13th straight opponent to 10 or fewer goals in a pair of victories. Against Towson Wednesday, Douty picked up two ground balls and helped hold the Tigers to eight scores in a 19-8 win at the Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex. In a pivotal ACC showdown with Boston College, the Fair Haven, N.J., native, was critical to the Terps’ success around the crease, limiting BC to eight goals on 26 shots and recorded two ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Syracuse senior attacker Alyssa Murray garnered top offensive weekly honors.
Maryland has the workweek off before traveling to No. 1 North Carolina for a game against the Tar Heels Saturday at noon. The game will be shown live on ESPN3.
