The Terps earned a conference split last weekend after defeating Pittsburgh, 3-1, in a mid-week match at Comcast Center, before falling to Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind. in four sets. Maryland hopes to knock off its first ranked team of the season when it faces No. 15 Duke Friday.

Junior Ashleigh Crutcher was incredible in both matches last weekend, tallying 45 kills (5.62/s) and only nine errors for a .424 hitting percentage. Crutcher tallied half of the Terps kills in their victory over Pittsburgh, notching 24 kills and 10 digs in the effort.

Senior Sarah Harper continues to lead the ACC in digs with 4.84/s, while the Terps ranks second in the conference in blocks (2.77). Ashlyn MacGregor is fifth in blocks (1.26), while Kelsey Hrebenach is ninth (1.17). Mary Cushman is 10th in kills (3.32).

The Demon Deacons are a strong defensive team, ranking second in the ACC in digs (15.75) and fourth in blocks (2.59). Sophomore Megan Miller is fifth in the ACC in digs (4.32), while Kristin Grissom is seventh in blocks (1.21) and Matalee Reed is seventh in aces (0.33).

Wake Forest head coach Ken Murczek is in his first season at the helm, previously coaching at North Texas for three seasons.

Senior Day

The Maryland volleyball program is happy to celebrate the illustrious careers of three seniors Sunday against Wake Forest: Carlisle Abele, Mary Cushman and Sarah Harper. All three players have spent four seasons with the Terps.

Carlisle Abele was unfortunate to lose two seasons to injury (freshman and senior), but made strong contributions in 2011 and 2012. She had one of her best games as a sophomore, tallying 11 kills with a .417 hitting percentage against Clemson.

Mary Cushman made an immediate impact on the Terrapins from day one, leading the team in kills as a freshman and earning All-ACC Freshman Team honors. She has since become one of the best hitters in Maryland history, and ranks fourth all-time in kills in program history.

Sarah Harper joined the team as a walk-on and transformed into one of the best players in the history of the Maryland volleyball program. Harper set the program single-season digs record as a sophomore with 569, and is 24 digs from becoming the all-time Maryland digs leader.

Digging Milestone on the Horizon

Sarah Harper, the ACC's leader in digs this season (4.84), is on the verge of becoming Maryland's all-time leader in digs. She currently sits at 1,645, and needs just 24 more digs to break Nicole Latagne's record (1,668) that has stood since 1993.

Barring any setbacks, Harper should break the record this weekend. She has tallied 24 digs or more on four separate occasions this seasons, but has not accomplished the feat since October 4 against Virginia.

Crutcher Crushes

Since returning from injury a few weekends ago, Ashleigh Crutcher has steadily returned to form as one of the best hitters in the nation. An AVCA Honorable Mention pick a season ago, Crutcher dominated opponents last week with 48 kills in eight sets (5.62). She also had 18 digs on the week.

The junior has tallied double-figure kills in 12 of 15 matches this season, including the last four matches since October 25.

Block Party

The Terrapins ranks second in the ACC this season with 2.77 blocks/s. After notching 14.5 blocks against #14 North Carolina, the Terps had a season-high 19 against NC State two weekends ago.

Key to the success has been the middle play of sophomore Kelsey Hrebenach and freshman Ashlyn MacGregor. MacGregor ranks fifth in the conference (1.26), while Hrebenach ranks ninth (1.17).

Moving Up

With her 10th and final kill against Miami, senior Mary Cushman surpassed Elizabeth Efron ('95-'97) for fifth all-time on the Maryland career kills list. Cushman currently has 1,246 kills to her name, which ranks fourth all-time in Maryland history.

Hreben-Block

Sophomore Kelsey Hrebenach tallied 12 blocks (1s, 11a) in the Terps' four-set victory over Virginia, becoming the first Maryland player to accomplish the feat since 2011. The mark is tied for the highest this season in the conference for a four-set match.

Maryland had 31 blocks as a team on the weekend, including 18 against Virginia. The 18 blocks is a season-high for the Terps.

Conference Honors

Freshman Ashlyn MacGregor was named ACC Freshman of the Week for career-best efforts against Virginia and Virginia Tech in October. It is MacGregor's first career conference honor.

The freshman had a memorable weekend at the net, hitting at a .447 clip with 20 kills and 11 blocks over the course of two matches. MacGregor's 12 kills against Virginia Tech were a career-high.

Head Coach Tim Horsmon

Tim Horsmon is in his sixth season in charge of the Maryland volleyball team and earned his 300th career victory against Georgia Tech earlier this season. All three coaches in Maryland volleyball history garner at least 300 career victories.
