NEW YORK   – Maryland women’s basketball all-time leading scorer and rebounder Alyssa Thomas was voted to the WNBA’s All-Rookie Team the league announced Thursday. Thomas is one of five first-year players honored on the team.

Thomas, a rookie with the Connecticut Sun, ranked fourth among rookies in scoring (10.0 ppg), second in rebounding (5.1 rpg) and eighth in assists (1.5 apg). She collected 23 points and a career-high 12 rebounds in a 79-69 win over Chicago on June 25.

The voting panel consisted of the WNBA’s 12 head coaches, each of whom voted for five players regardless of position. Coaches were not permitted to vote for players on their own team.

Former Terrapin Marissa Coleman was named to the WNBA All-Rookie Team in 2009.

Thomas’ teammate with the Sun, Chiney Ogwumike, was voted the WNBA Rookie of the Year. Kayla McBride, Odyssey Sims and Bria Hartley were also named to the WNBA All-Rookie Team.

In her senior season, Thomas was the Terps’ leading scorer with 19.0 points per game and leader on the boards with 10.9 rebounds per game as she led them to the 2014 NCAA Final Four. In the NCAA First Round, she passed Juan Dixon as Maryland’s all-time leading scorer. She ended her career with 2,356 career points and as the school’s leading rebounder with 1,235 career rebounds.

Thomas led the ACC with 28 double-doubles in 35 games played as a senior and led the nation with four triple-doubles. She is one of just three players in NCAA history with six or more triple-doubles in her career.
