COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Maryland men’s basketball team has been scheduled to take on Villanova in the 20th annual Jimmy V Men’s Basketball Classic doubleheader on Tuesday, Dec. 9.
ESPN will televise both games from New York City’s famed Madison Square Garden, beginning with Villanova vs. Maryland at 7 p.m. and followed by Indiana vs. Louisville at 9 p.m. It marks Maryland’s first appearance in the Jimmy V Classic.
The Terrapins are 1-4 all-time against the Wildcats, meeting just two times since 1986 (2009, 2011). Villanova won the last meeting, 74-66, in the BB&T Classic on Jan. 15, 2011.
The early-season event will conclude the eighth annual Jimmy V Week, a weeklong initiative across multiple ESPN platforms and programs featuring special content to help raise funds for cancer research. In seven years, Jimmy V Week has generated $8,246,000 in total contributions for The V Foundation for Cancer Research, including a record-setting number of $1,827,000 in 2013.
Villanova earned the No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament this season, falling to eventual Final Four program, UConn. The Wildcats finished the season 29-5 with a 16-2 mark in conference play.
