COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland athletics department celebrated graduation day with many of their senior student-athletes and their family and friends as part of Saturday's December Commencement. A reception was held prior to the main ceremony as Maryland student-athletes prepared for a memorable day.
A total of 32 student-athletes officially earned degrees Saturday. Jake Pace, a member of the ACC champion men's soccer team and Ali McEvoy of the ACC champion field hockey squad, both expressed their excitement and gratitude on one of the most important days of their lives.
"As a fourth generation Terp, attending the University of Maryland has meant everything to me," Pace, who led the Terps to the College Cup for a second straight year, said. "I earned a fantastic degree and competed at the highest level of collegiate athletics. I will forever my grateful for all of my experiences at Maryland."
"These past fours years have flown by but I would not have wanted to be anywhere else than right here at University of Maryland," McEvoy, who helped the Terps return to the final four again in 2013, said. "It has given me the greatest opportunities and I am most definitely going to miss it. Once a terp always a terp!"
Included in Saturday's graduating class is 10 former student-athletes who left campus and came back to finish their degrees, showing a strong commitment to graduation.
December's graduating class also includes:
o University of Maryland Dean’s List Recipients
o Athletic Director’s Honor Roll Recipients
o Members of the ACC Honor Roll
o Members of their respective sport All-ACC Academic Teams
o Two members of the field hockey team who participated in the NCAA Final Four this year
o Five members of the men's soccer team who recently participated in the National Championship
o A total of 11 football student-athletes who will participate in the Military Bowl as graduating seniors
