NEWTON, Mass. –  No. 2 Maryland field hockey (9-0, 2-0 ACC) came from behind twice to top a hot No. 9 Boston College squad, 3-2, Friday night in Newton, Mass. Sophomore Sarah Sprink scored the Terrapins’ first two goals that each equalized the score, then senior Hayley Turner tipped in the game winner with 17 minutes to play.

“Just an outstanding result against an ACC team,” head coach Missy Meharg said. “BC was tremendous, very athletic, very eager, and we’re just so proud of the Maryland women who found a way to come from behind to play and win the game. We’re amazed at the competitiveness of both teams. We were excited to play at the venue for the ACC Tournament in November. Again, this was a great, great BC team and just a fabulous result from the Terrapins. Our player of the game was Emma Rissinger, who did a tremendous job up front and earned the penalty corner that tied the game.”

Boston College (7-3, 1-1) scored just under eight minutes into the match when Virgynia Muma scored off a pass from AshLeigh Sebia. Sprink tied it up three minutes later off a penalty corner. Senior Ali McEvoy assisted on the play and the teams stayed tied at halftime.

Just 1:24 into the second half, the Eagles scored off a penalty corner when Emma Plasteras hit one in. Maryland trailed for 15 minutes, until Sprink struck again off a penalty corner in the 52nd minute. Her hard shot was set up by Maxine Fluharty and Anna Dessoye.

Seventy seconds later, Turner gave Maryland its first lead of the game when she tipped in a shot.

The Maryland defense held Boston College scoreless through two penalty corners in the final 17 minutes of the match. The Terps outshot the Eagles, 13-7. Terrapin keeper Natalie Hunter notched three saves on the night.

Next, the Terrapins will play at No. 7 Massachusetts (7-3) in Amherst, Mass. Sunday at 1 p.m. Live stats will be available for Sunday’s game at UMTerps.com and live updates will be available at @TerpFieldHockey.
